On August 6, 2026, the NC General Assembly adopted SJR 1091 (Adjournment Resolution).  

The Adjournment Resolution adjourns the General Assembly on August 6, 2026, and establishes the following schedule for the NCGA to adjourn and reconvene on specific dates, with final adjournment sine die on December 18, 2026. It also provides what matters may be considered during each session.  

When will the NCGA reconvene?

• August 31 – September 2, 2026 at 12:00 P.M. 

• September 28 – 30, 2026 at 12:00 P.M. 

• October 26 – 28, 2026 at 12:00 P.M. 

• November 16 – 19, 2026 at 12:00 P.M. 

• November 30 – December 18, 2026, where they stand adjourned sine die.  

Matters that may be considered:

• Bills returned by the Governor for veto override consideration  

• Bills containing only one or more of the following: 

  • Selections, appointments, confirmations, or filling vacancies as required by law 

  • Actions on gubernatorial nominations or appointments 

  • Actions related to litigation challenging legislative enactments 

  • Matters relating to election laws, including redistricting for various elected offices 

  • Impeachment proceedings 

  • Bills proposing amendments to the North Carolina Constitution and implementation language for such amendments 

• Simple resolutions on organizational matters 

• Adoption of conference reports for bills for which conferees had been appointed by both houses on or before August 6, 2026 

• Bills returned on or before August 6, 2026, to the house in which the bill originated for concurrence 

• A joint resolution further adjourning the 2025 Regular Session, amending a joint resolution adjourning the 2025 Regular Session, or adjourning the 2025 Regular Session, sine die. 

The Adjournment Resolution authorizes the Speaker and President Pro Tempore to allow committees or subcommittees to meet during session interims to review budget matters, prepare reports, or consider other matters as deemed appropriate, and allows conference committees to meet with leadership approval.
